Grocery Shopping Guide 7.0: Malaysia Peanut Butter Protocol In Biohacking Your Grocery List for Longevity

By AOKLINIK Clinical Dietitian & Longevity Team

Peanut butter is a staple in many Malaysian households whether it’s spread on roti benggali for breakfast or added to a post-workout shake. However, not all jars are created equal.

While peanuts are an excellent source of plant-based protein and heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, many commercial brands found in our local supermarkets are ultra-processed foods disguised as health foods. In this guide, we will break down how to spot the "red flags" on a label and highlight the best local Malaysian brands that prioritize your longevity.

Types of Peanut Butter

Longevity & Metabolic Impact

Less peanuts, more corn syrup solids and fillers.

Poor. Removing healthy fats and adding sugar is detrimental to metabolic health.

Avoid. High glycemic load.

Powdered (PB2)

Moderate. Great for flavoring without the high-fat calorie hit.

Weight Loss. Good for adding flavor to shakes with low calories.

How To Read The Food Label?

Ingredient Length: If you look at the back of a Jobbie or Pintar jar, the list is one or two items long. If you look at a commercial brand like Skippy, you will see a list of five to eight items, including stabilizers and emulsifiers. For longevity, the shorter the list, the better.

Salt & Sugar Content: Avoid ingredients written 'sucrose' or 'molasses' in the first three listed. Dietitian's Tip: Aim for brands that show <5g of sugar per 100g on the Nutrition Information Panel. Most commercial brands exceed 10g-15g due to added cane sugar or molasses.

Oil: Avoid Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils (Palm Oil). These are often sources of saturated fats (or even trans-fats) that can contribute to inflammation and cardiovascular issues.

Emulsifiers & Stabilizers: Ingredients like E471 (mono- and diglycerides) are added to give that "perfectly smooth" texture. For long-term gut health and longevity, we want to minimize these synthetic additives.
